Displaced

As I type this it is early August in 2020. The year has been unlike any before it in many ways. Currently there is a river in China that has been flooding for 2 months and there are several million people displaced. There is a serious concern that the largest dam in the world will fail and flood many more cities and destroy the lives of many people. This is the time in which we live. While there has been great upheaval in the world regarding the Covid Virus, it is transforming the lives and dreams of many that expected the stasis of their lives to continue. It has revealed many points of previous stress that would maintain that load until the “last straw” showed up and the system changed. I won’t say it “failed” for that would imply that something broke. Nothing broke. Much has been revealed that was considered “normal” that was simply something we took for granted. CS Lewis said, “to the common Christian the strength of their faith is nothing more than a warm meal and a safe ...

In the Dark

In the Dark I wrote this as a description of people going through the process of recovery and starting again.  We all move through that at our own pace, and can't know the cadence of another.  Enjoy. There is a place underwater that the light stops penetrating.  It is different depending on the part of the ocean that you go to, but the point of no light is still there.  To go to this part of the dark water with a sub and turn on the lights you will find some creatures that thrive in these waters.  The individual adaptations will be just that, individual.  The types of actions are also very specific.  The pictures of these creatures are amazing. To get to a place that is so deep that light is gone is quite of journey.  The path to this level requires more than a casual step into a part of life that is not generally frequented.  Mostly it is avoided.  The parts of this depth that are different is that the pressures are trul...

Space

I wrote this a few months ago. I had the chance to talk to an old friend who told me a tale, I didn't wish to know, but was ready to be told. It is a call to see farther and to see deeper into those that around you every day.  Take a look, you may find a new friend. Someone to listen to, someone to tell. Space for me The story is a curious thing.   It is a part of you and yet it is complete in itself. It takes on a life of its own if it is not told, and the internal contest is to let it out or keep it constrained. The strength of it is developed in secret, in dreams and angry but controlled behaviors. It grows until it can no longer be contained. The tale told came with sobs.   Not at first for that was a time of fun and whimsy.   The beginning was wide ranging and free flowing.   Fast and slow, light and easy then taking sharper turns to the place that was only hinted at in the corner of the mouth and the fear in the eyes. ...

Naming your Dragons

Naming your dragons (Written about when I decided to take control of my life back)  The conversation was rather simple really. It started with a few light comments, we were strangers actually, but the question was direct and pointed.   The questions came in sequence and progressed from simple to the more complex. “I have never seen a pet like that.”   Even though it was on a leash, you can understand the curiosity as the pet was a dragon.   It was quite small, but still, it was a dragon.   Pointy tail, scales small but powerful wings, pointy things on its head and green/yellow eyes.   While it is not your normal leashed pet, there it was.   “Does it have a name?” was next.   That is when things took a turn. “The name is Insecurity”, I said.   “It is actually one of a litter, but I had left the remainder at home.”   The look was curious, and the questions came with a new tone, inquisitive but more guarded thi...
